Fingal ACHIEV Sustainable Tourism Project

Fingal Tourism, supported by tourism experts from the Dublin Institute of Technology are beginning a new tourism project, which will plan for the future of tourism in Fingal.

Supported by LEADER, this project will see the implementation of the internationally recognised DIT-ACHIEV Model for Sustainable Tourism Planning across the County.  Fingal Tourism will shortly be setting up an Implementation Group of local tourism interests, to undertake the project, under the guidance of the DIT.  The Model examines how tourism is performing under a number of criteria, including administration, community, heritage, infrastructure, enterprise and visitors, and has already been successfully implemented in locations such as Killarney, Carlingford and Temple Bar.

At the moment we are carrying out a Visitor Survey and a Resident Survey. Shortly we will begin a Business survey. When all of the research is added to existing data, those planning for tourism in the area will have a rich understanding of Fingal's tourism strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge will assist those involved in local tourism to support the industry, protect investment, jobs and businesses, and plan for a high quality, more sustainable tourism product into the future.
