Parks & Gardens

The gardens are in two main parts, the formal garden to the west of the house and the walled garden to the North West. In 1983 work began on the replanting of the formal garden using the layout of the Ordnance Survey map of 1865

The 109ha park features natural rolling parkland sensitively enhanced by pleasant walks, play and picnic areas, a cricket pitch, tennis courts, 9-hole golf course and a pitch and putt course. Within Malahide Demesne lie the 10 hectare Talbot Botanic Gardens, including a 2 hectare Walled Garden with seven glasshouses

The ornamental gardens adjoining the castle cover an area of about 22 acres and were largely created by Lord Milo Talbot. He was an enthusiastic plant collector who brought specimens from around the world to create the gardens here; he also re-landscaped the grounds here to dramatic effect. 

One of the finest examples of an 18th century landscape the extensive 145 hectare park includes a restored Victorian style Kitchen Garden, a wildlife and deer park, playing, picnic and walking areas, and a 19th Century working farm.
